Millenia Planned Community

Millenia is the new planned suburban community with an urban appeal spanning over 206 acres of southeast chula vista land.  This 20 year project will consist of 2,983 condominiums and townhouses; 3.5 million square feet of commercial space, including a hotel; and six parks, a library, school, fire station and transit station.  The high-density development on 210 acres lies east of state Route 125 and south of Birch Road and the Otay Ranch Town Center mall.

Millenia is pioneering the integration of LEED standards and goals at a neighborhood design level, one that is less dependent on cars and more people friendly. Its innovative planning designing structure is part of a national research project by the National Energy Research Center's Center for Sustainable Communities, the U.S. Department of Energy and the California Energy Commission.  According to the National Center for Sustainable Communities, the design of Millenia will result in residents traveling 5.5 million fewer miles per year.
Parks are a major part of Millenia, which will spread throughout the offices, residential complexes and shopping centers so that visitors can appreciate the beauty. Green areas include a community garden and a children’s interactive water fountain located near the cafes and restaurants. Dog parks will also be provided so they can have a space to run around freely. Pathways for cyclists will also be in placed. It is hoped that people will come together in these green spaces to interact creating a sense of community.

Millenia will be a pedestrian-friendly community that encourages walking. Sidewalks will be generous with attractive tree-lined landscape and with buildings at sidewalk edge to invite interaction. Millenia will include designated walking and jogging trails that connect to the popular Chula Vista Greenbelt trail so residents can go for a leisurely walk, run, or just spend the day exploring nature.
Millenia will also offer a rapid transit bus service that will provide transportation to and from downtown San Diego and to the border crossing at San Ysidro. The local bus service will also provide public transportation to the historic Third Avenue District of Chula Vista, the scenic beauty and wildlife of the Chula Vista Nature Center, and to the Bayfront.

Millenia is one of eastern Chula Vista’s largest planned communities.  The main focus will be towards an energy efficient community that integrates both business and residential properties towards.  Millenia is just one planned community expected to increase the overall size of Otay Ranch.
